Amitabh Sen Explores Inner Restlessness in New Indie Single ‘Bawarey’ In 2026

Amitabh Sen, an independent musician shaped by both classical training and modern influences, has released his latest single “Bawarey” on April 19. The Hindi indie pop track reflects on the restless nature of the human mind and its ongoing search for fulfillment, marking another step in Sen’s transition into a more introspective solo phase.

Born into a family of musicians, Sen’s early years were steeped in Indian classical traditions through formal vocal training. Over time, he developed an instinctive ability to merge these roots with Western musical styles, gradually shaping a sound that bridges tradition and contemporary expression. Songwriting emerged naturally for him, becoming central to his artistic identity from a young age.

His formative years coincided with a dynamic period in Delhi’s live music scene between 2006 and 2011. Regular exposure to performances by bands such as Parikrama, Euphoria, Advaita, Indian Ocean, Them Clones, and Menwhopause, along with festivals like GIR, played a key role in refining his musical sensibilities and inspiring him to pursue original work.

During his college years, Sen began composing in Hindi, drawing from a wide range of influences—from South Asian acts like Strings and Fuzon to global bands such as Scorpions, U2, and early Coldplay, alongside the emerging influence of Coke Studio. This period led to the formation of his band Element 21, which went on to win the North India round of Yamaha Asian Beats 2010 in Delhi and emerge as a finalist among more than 150 bands. The group also shared the stage with established acts and gained visibility through performances at festivals, including Escape in Naukuchiatal.

In 2012, Sen co-founded The Overseas Project with producer and keyboardist Hasib Reza. Based out of Pune, the collaboration grew into a recognised act within the independent music circuit, performing at venues and festivals such as High Spirits, Anti Social, and India Bike Week in Goa. Their music reached wider audiences through platforms like MTV and SonyLIV and received coverage from publications including The Score Magazine, Rolling Stone India, Rock Street Journal, and Savaal Magazine.

While his core sound lies in indie pop and pop-rock, Sen has consistently experimented with folk and fusion elements. Tracks like “Piya Ki Nazariya” showcase his ability to reinterpret classical forms such as thumri within a modern framework.

Since 2025, Sen has focused on his solo career, releasing music under his own name. His recent single “Saavan” has surpassed 100,000 views on YouTube, while “Banjarey” is approaching a similar milestone. His performance at the Bir Music Festival 2025 further strengthened his presence in the independent music space.

“Bawarey” holds particular significance in Sen’s catalogue. Though the song’s melody and lyrics were written years ago, it remained unfinished for nearly a decade despite being performed live in various forms, including during his time with The Overseas Project. It was only recently that the track came together in a way that felt complete to the artist.

A turning point came during a visit to Bir, where Sen was invited to perform at the Bir Music Festival. Surrounded by the Himalayan landscape and the stillness of nearby monasteries, he felt compelled to finally complete the song. Guitarist Krishna Chauhan, who travelled with him, contributed to the track, while production was shaped in collaboration with Hasib Reza and Coma Studios, which handled co-production, mixing, and mastering.

Lyrically, “Bawarey” reflects on the pursuit of happiness through external means—wealth, relationships, and material desires—while subtly pointing toward introspection as a path to fulfillment. Drawing from Sen’s own experiences, the song avoids definitive answers, instead encouraging listeners to pause and reflect on their own journeys. Its accompanying video reinforces this theme by depicting spaces where individuals turn toward spirituality.

With its understated tone and emotive core, “Bawarey” encapsulates Amitabh Sen’s evolving artistic direction—one that remains grounded in musical heritage while engaging with deeply personal and universal questions.
