Indian-American rapper, singer, and songwriter Raja Kumari has made history by becoming the first artist of Indian origin to win an American Music Award (AMA). The milestone moment occurred at the 51st AMA ceremony in Los Angeles, where Kumari was honored in the Favourite Soundtrack category.
She received the award for her contribution to Arcane League of Legends: Season 2, specifically for the hit track “Renegade (We Never Run)”, a high-energy anthem created in collaboration with UK hip-hop artist Stefflon Don and Dominican-Brazilian artist Jarina de Marco.

The song quickly rose to popularity, even breaking into Spotify’s ‘Viral 50’ global charts, signaling its wide appeal and impact. Despite modest expectations, the track resonated strongly with listeners around the world. Speaking about the win, Kumari shared, “I just did a song for a film. I didn’t have many expectations for it. It ended up really impacting people.”
This landmark achievement arrives at a reflective time in her career. Raja Kumari had recently considered narrowing her musical focus to a specific genre to better align with global market trends. However, the AMA recognition reaffirmed the power of her genre-blending, cross-cultural artistry—a hallmark of her identity and influence.

Her victory marks a powerful moment for the Indian diaspora, showcasing how artists of Indian origin are increasingly shaping the global music landscape. With this historic win, Raja Kumari has not only elevated her own profile but also opened doors for emerging South Asian voices in international music.
